Eindhoven-based Axelera AI designs accelerator chips for running AI at the edge - close to where data is generated, rather than in distant data centers.

Its Metis hardware and Voyager software toolkit target computer-vision and generative workloads that need low latency and power efficiency. With more than 500 customers reported by early 2026, it has become one of Europe's most watched AI-hardware companies, backed by a mix of venture funding and substantial EU grants.

It speaks directly to Europe's ambition to build its own AI silicon.
