AMI Labs (Advanced Machine Intelligence) is a Paris research lab founded in 2026 by Turing Award winner Yann LeCun to build AI 'world models' - systems that understand, reason about and plan in the physical world rather than just manipulating language.
LeCun, a longtime critic of the idea that LLMs alone lead to real intelligence, is betting that physical AI will define the next decade, with applications across robotics, healthcare and autonomous systems. Its launch was backed by what was reported as Europe's largest-ever seed round, despite a tiny initial headcount.
It is among the most closely watched new labs in the world.
